With assistance of Living Arts newly formed Contemporary DanceCommittee, the Festival will feature new eclectic works which go beyond traditional dance boundaries. Encouraging and supporting the creation and presentation of new local contemporary dance work as well as enhancing the public's understanding and appreciation of the art form is the current focus of the committee. Festival audiences will get a taste of the most intriguing intersection of forms at the Contemporary Dance New Genre this year. The return of local Festival favorites, Living Water Dance Company, and Portico Dans Theatre as well as introduction of  Festival newcomers Nina Madsen and Jordan Fuchs.

Tulsa’s own contemporary dance company,

Living Water Dance Company will perform at Tulsa Ballet’s

Studio K with TB’s pre-professional ensemble performing

choreography by Amy Roark-McIntosh (Artistic Director),

the new has come…!  Liudmila Polonskaya is the Head Instructor

and Artistic Director of TBII.  In addition to contemporary dance,

the concert will include tap artist, Heather Fick, jazz artist, Sheri

Sprague, and dance for camera short films by Rachel Bruce

Johnson (company member/choreographer). Living Water will

perform original works by McIntosh and Johnson, ranging from

Infinite, based on the classical modern dance technique of

José Limón to White After Labor Day, a dramatic, comical

work that questions the role of women to McIntosh’s most

recent piece, Emerging, choreographed in response to the

transformation happening in west Tulsa at Eugene Field

Elementary and West United Methodist church.  McIntosh

says about Emerging, “Just as the phoenix bird is said to rise

out of the fiery ashes and spring anew, so do I see this area

finding new wings of liberation.”
